Answer given by the minister

(a): No Madam. The activities related to the exploration and production of minerals, including iron ore , are regulated as per the provisions of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and the rules framed there under. Further, before commencing of mining operations, it is mandatory to obtain statutory clearances like Environmental Clearance and Forest Clearance, as stipulated in the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 respectively, and other statutory clearances.

Export of iron ore is regulated by the Export-Import policy which presently provides that export of iron ore upto 64% Fe grades is free and export of iron ore higher than 64% Fe grade is canalized through MMTC.

(b) to (d): Does not arise in view of the reply given to (a) above.
