Question : Thanjavur Airport

(a) whether the Thanjavur airport project has not been taken ahead despite it being identified under phase II of UDAN for operation of domestic flights with ATR aircraft and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the current status of the project; and

(c) the time by which the airport will be functional?

(a) & (b): Thanjavur Airport belongs to Indian Air Force (IAF) and Airports Authority of India (AAI) has projected a land requirement of 57.7 acres to IAF for development of a Civil Enclave. Thanjavur airport project tenders were called by AAI however the same were cancelled due to non-availability of working permission from IAF. ;

(c): Completion of airport projects depends upon many factors such as availability of land, availability of mandatory clearances , financial closure etc. by the airport developer which involve a lengthy and time consuming process. As such, no timeline has been decided to make the airport functional.
