(c) The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) sets the guidelines and direction for the
development of syllabi and textbooks at all the school stages. As a follow up to the NCF,
model curriculum, syllabi, text-books and other supplementary material are developed by
NCERT. During the exercise of the making of the NCF-2005, 21 National Focus Groups
were constituted on different aspects of school education such as teaching of science, teaching
of mathematics, arts education, etc. Each of the Focus Group had brought out research based
position paper taking into consideration curriculum researches conducted at the national and
international level. The NCF-2005 has been developed drawing insights from these National
Focus Groups’ position papers.
