STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. †159 TO BE ANSWERED ON 28.11.2019 REGARDING “KHELO INDIA SCHEME” ASKED BY SHRI UDAY PRATAP SINGH, HON’BLE MEMBER OF LOK SABHA
(a) and (b) This Ministry till date has received a total of thirteen proposals from the Government of Madhya Pradesh under Khelo India Scheme. The current status of all proposals received from the Government of Madhya Pradesh under Khelo India Scheme is at Annexure – I.
(c) ‘Sports’ being a State subject the responsibility for providing sports infrastructure rests with the State/Union Territory Governments. Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports only supplements their efforts by bridging gaps in infrastructure. Madhya Pradesh has got adequate synthetic athletic tracks, shooting ranges and water sports facilities where larger number of athletes could be trained with higher quality coaches. Therefore, the proposal for synthetic athletic track at Itarsi was not found feasible for funding by this Ministry.
