(a) whether an indigenously built multi target surface to air missile ‘Akash’ was test fired twice on July 5 and July 8, 2000;
(b) if so, the extent of success achieved therefrom indicating its special features; and
(c) the reasons for repeated testing thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) & (c): These tests were a part of the number of
flight trials, which need to be conducted during
development, for proving various sub-systems. Valuable
data has been obtained from these tests for use in
development of the system.
