Question : DISAPPEARANCE OF MONUMENTS



(a) whether it is a fact that several historical monuments in the country have disappeared/ become untraceable;

(b) if so, whether the National Monuments Authority has submitted a report to the Government in this regard;

(c) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise;

(d) whether the Archaeological Survey of India has claimed that the actual number of such monuments was less than the stated figure;

(e) if so, whether the Ministry has made any efforts to find out the factual position in this regard; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes, Madam. Twenty four centrally protected monuments have become untraceable.

(b) National Monuments Authority has not submitted any specific report to the Government on disappeared/untraceable historical monuments under ASI in the country.

(c) Does not arise.

(d) Twenty four centrally protected monuments have become untraceable.

(e) The Archaeological Survey of India has made efforts to locate/identify the untraceable monuments through field offices based on old records, revenue maps and published reports

(f) The details of untraceable monuments are at Annexure.
