Question : Herbal Gardens

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Central Sector Scheme for Conservation, Development and Sustainable
Management of Medicinal Plants is being implemented in the country ;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the number of herbal gardens functioning in the country including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu;

(c) the details of project based support to various government and non-government organizations to develop different types of Herbal Gardens in Maharashtra;

(d) whether under this scheme financial assistance as subsidy to farmers to promote farming of herbs/ medicinal plants has been provided and if so, the quantum of financial assistance provided during each of the last three years; and

(e) the corrective measures taken by the Government to further incentivize the programme under the scheme?

(a): Yes, presently, the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is implementing a Central Sector Scheme on “Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants” under which project based support is provided for survey, inventorization, in-situ conservation through development of Medicinal Plants Conservation and Development Areas (MPCDAs), ex-situ conservation through establishment of Herbal Gardens etc.

(b): Under the above said Central Sector Scheme there is a provision to provide project based support to various Government and Non-Government organizations to develop different types of Herbal Gardens viz. Home Herbal Gardens, School Herbal Gardens, Institutional/ Public Herbal Gardens and Herbal Gardens of State and National Importance. The State/UT-wise detail the herbal garden projects supported across the country under the above said Central Sector Scheme during last three years including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu is at Annexure-I.

(c): Two projects (02) under Institutional Herbal Garden category have been supported in state of Maharashtra (One project to Government organization and one project to Non-Government organization).
