(a) whether new sugar mills based completely on modern technology have been started in the country during the last three years, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor, State- wise;
(b) the role of the Government in establishing the sugar mills based on modern technology in the country; and
(c) whether there is any proposal to set up new sugar mills and if so, the details thereof, State- wise?

(a). There are 30 new sugar mills started in the country during last three sugar seasons (October- September). The State-wise details are as under:-

(b): The Central Government is providing loans at conce- ssional rate of interest from Sugar Development Fund(SDF) to modernise existing mills. As such Entrepreneurs are free to set up new sugar mills at their preferred loca- tions with free to access modern technology etc. sub- ject to compliance of rules and regulations of the Central/State Government.
(c): The Government have received 129 proposals from entrepreneurs to set up sugar mills in the country are under implementation at various stages. The State- wise details of these proposals is at annexure.
