Question : DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM



(a) whether a number of proposals are pending with the Union Government for development of tourism in the States including West Bengal;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) by when these proposals are likely to be accorded approval; and

(d) the new initiatives taken by the Government to promote tourism in the country particularly in West Bengal?

(a), (b), (c) and (d): The Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations for Integrated Development of Tourism Circuits and Product Infrastructure, Destination Development and Large Revenue Generating Projects. All such projects that were complete in all respect were sanctioned on the basis of inter-se priority and subject to availability of funds.

During the year 2004-05, following projects have been sanctioned for the State of West Bengal:-
