Question : REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF N.Hs IN ANDHARA PRADESH



(a) the year-wise amount sanctioned for the repair and maintenance of national highways in Andhra Pradesh during the last three years, till date;

(b) whether the aforesaid annual allocation has always been less for Andhra Pradesh;

(c) whether most of the national highways in the State are in bad shape; and

(d) if so, the remedial steps proposed to be taken in this regard?

(a) : The details of allocation of funds for maintenance and repairs of National Highways in Andhra Pradesh during the last three years are as under:

2002-03 Rs. 42.16 crore 2003-04 Rs. 43.70 crore 2004-05 Rs. 43.95 crore



(b) : Funds for maintenance and repairs of National Highways are allocated depending upon length of National Highways in the concerned State, extent of flood damages and overall availability of funds.

(c) & (d) : Four laning of 1778 km length of National Highways in Andhra Pradesh has been taken up under National Highway Development Project (NHDP) Phase-I & II. Out of this four-laning of 973 km has already been completed and the balance length is likely to be completed by December, 2007. Out of total length of 2736 km being developed and maintained by the State PWD, 2300 km length has been improved during the last 5 years under various schemes. The balance length is proposed for improvement in future plans. As such, the National Highways in Andhra Pradesh are being maintained in traffic worthy condition within the available resources.
