Question : HARD SHOULDERS ON ROADS



(a) whether the Government has identified such National Highways on which more than 1000 commercial vehicles fly every day;

(b) if so, whether there is any plan to provide the facility of Hard shoulders on these roads;

(c) the target of the total length in kms. of the above roads likely to be covered;

(d) whether this work has commenced; and

(e) if so, the details of the length (in kms.) of the roads likely to be covered with the facility of Hard Shoulders every Years?

(a), (b) and (c) There is a proposal to identify about 20,000 km of National Highway sections for developing two lane road with paved shoulders in a phased manner over 7 years. On most of these stretches, traffic volume is more than 1000 CVD.

(d) and (e) The scheme including year wise phasing is yet to be approved by the Government.
