(a) : The installed generation capacity in the country is around 391 GW which is sufficient to meet the highest peak demand of around 203 GW occurred till date. The steps taken to meet the demand of electricity in the country are as under:
(i) Generation capacity of around 160819 MW has been added since 2014.
(ii) Transmission lines and transformation capacity of 161104 cKms and 549220 MVA have been added in the country since 2014.
(iii) The power market has been deepend with introduction of new products like Real time Market, Green Term Ahead Market, Green Day Ahead Market. This has enabled the DISCOMs to buy electricity in real time closer to the time of delivery of electricity, thus, avoiding any load shedding.
(iv) DISCOMs have been supported to strengthen their distribution network through various schemes of the Government such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Saubhagya, Power System Development Fund, etc.
(v) Energy efficiency measures have been taken to save electricity. Due to these measures around 203.14 Billion Units of power have been saved per year.
(vi) Liquidity Infusion Scheme of Rs.1.03 lakh crore (up to 31.11.2021), has helped DISCOMs to purchase electricity and meet the demand of electricity.
(b) : The status of demand and supply of electricity in the State of Madhya Pradesh during the last two years i.e. 2019-20 & 2020-21 and the current year i.e. 2021-22 (period April, 2021 to January, 2022) are given below:-

(c) & (d) : The details of the new generation plants being set-up in Madhya Pradesh are as under:
(i) One Hydro Electric Power project–Maheshwar, HEP (10x40 = 400 MW) is under implementation in the private sector by Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation Ltd. in Khargone & Khandwa Districts of Madhya Pradesh.
(ii) One nuclear power project – Chutka (Unit 1 & 2) with an installed capacity of 1400 MW has been accorded Administrative Approval and Financial Sanction for implementation in Madhya Pradesh.
