Question : COMMUNICATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES IN RAJASTHAN



(a) whether there is any proposal for providing infrastruture for developing communicatons and IT network and latest KU band technology for promoting distance education in Rajasthan; and

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) Sir, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Internet are two technologies which can be used for promoting distance education.

(b)

(i) Internet facility has been made available in all the District Headquarters of
Rajasthan on local call basis from the nearest Internet node.

(ii) It is planned to provide Internet nodes in all the 32 District Headquarters of Rajasthan during 2000-2001.

(iii) Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) facility is available in eight cities of Rajasthan viz. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar & Bhilwara. This facility will be progressively extended in other cities also, subject to demand and feasibility.
