Question : Physiotherapy Clinics

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of Government and private physiotherapy clinics functioning at present in the country;

(b) whether there is acute shortage of physiotherapy clinics in the country;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the corrective steps in this regard;

(d) whether the Government has fixed any criteria and qualification to run a physiotherapy centre;

(e) if so, the details regarding requirement of certification to run a physiotherapy clinic to ensure public safety;

(f) the number of sanctioned post of various grades of physiotherapists in general and SC/ST/OBC in various Central Government hospitals in the country;

(g) whether the Government has failed to fill up the posts of physiotherapists resulting in heavy rush in hospital, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor and the steps taken by the Government to fill up the posts in a time bound manner; and

(h) the other steps taken by the Government to promote physiotherapy in Government hospitals in the country?

(a): Health being a State subject, the information is not maintained Centrally. Government of India has notified Clinical Establishments Act, 2010 and Clinical Establishments (central Government) Rules, 2012 thereunder for registration and regulation of Clinical Establishments in the States/UTs wherever the Act is applicable. As on date Clinical Establishments Act is applicable in 11 States and 6 Union Territories namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Puducherry However, the implementation of the Act is within the remit of respective State/UT Government.

As per information available in the State-wise online data of clinical establishments registered under the Clinical Establishments Act 2010, the number of Government and Private clinical establishments providing Physiotherapy services is given in the table as under:

The registration of a Clinical Establishment including physiotherapy centre is mandatory in the States/UTs wherever the aforesaid Act is applicable. For registration and continuation, the physiotherapy clinic/centres are required to comply with the minimum standards.
