Question : Girls Education During COVID - 19 Pandemic

(a) whether the Government is aware that while the boys were given priority for online studies due to their access to computers or smart phones at home, the economic crunch due to Covid-19 put the girls at a disadvantage;
(b) if so, whether the Government has assessed the detrimental impact on girls education during lockdown;
(c) the measures taken by the Government to address this issue;
(d) the steps taken by the Government to meet the dependence on digital education; and
(e) total number of female students dropped out from schools at primary and secondary level between March 2020 to January 2021?

(a) Online classes are being conducted at the schools by employing various digital tools in the form of DIKSHA portal (https://diksha.gov.in/), SWAYAM Portal (swayam.gov.in), SWAYAM Prabha, DD Channel, e-Pathshala (https://epathshala.nic.in/), NROER (National Repository of Open Educational Resources) portal (https://nroer.gov.in/welcome), radio, community radio and CBSE podcasts etc. The medium of TV, radio has been used for the students who do not have digital means.

(b) to (e) Education is a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitution, and the matter relating to education pertains to Central as well as the State Government concerned. Mapping of the students is being done school wise and individual performance of every student has been observed and a track on the same has been put on record. Accordingly, the state governments have been directed to act based on the situation prevailing at every place to meet the demands of all students for providing them with the digital access required for learning digitally.
