Question : Patients Treated by DRDO Hospitals

(a) the total number of patients treated by hospitals set up by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) during the 1st and 2nd wave of the Corona pandemic;

(b) the number of make-shift hospitals set up by DRDO during the second wave, their locations and the respective bed capacities along with the number of patients each hospital had catered to;

(c) whether DRDO has a strategy/ protocol to deploy these makeshift facilities of treatment and isolation in the event of another wave and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether DRDO is working on any protective technology or medicines similar to that used during 2020 and 2021 in the fight against COVID-19; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(c) Yes, Sir. The protocol has been developed, documented and multiple vendors are engaged for carrying out the task, whenever and wherever it is needed. The infrastructure including maintenance is kept in readiness and hospitals could be made operational within a week.

(d) & (e): Yes, Sir. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) facility for genomic characterization of SARS-CoV-2 variants has been established at DRDE, Gwalior.
