(b) If so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) The remedial action to be taken by the Railways to sort out and resolve the problem?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI R. VELU)

(a) & (b): Agra consists of two major Junction stations. Agra Cantt. has trains coming from Mumbai and Jhansi direction on one side and from Palwal-New Delhi on the other side, both of which are trunk routes. Agra Fort has trains coming from Bayana and Bandikui as well as Tundla- Kanpur side. Thus a heavy congestion occurs.

Agra Cantt. the major station of Agra handles nearly 82 Mail/Express and passengers trains and nearly 70 goods trains daily. Due to this heavy traffic flow, some times trains are detained outside the station for want of platform due to line capacity and other infrastructure constraints.

Generally, Up Mail/Express trains are received on Platform No.1 only, at times resulting in detention at home signal, if bunching of trains occurs.

(c): A new signalling yard work (route relay interlocking-RRI) is already sanctioned & after remodeling of yard, line capacity constraints are expected to be largely overcome.
