STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED
QUESTION NO. 4227 BY SHRI B. VINOD KUMAR TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK
SABHA ON 21.04.2005 REGARDING COMMERCIAL UTILISATION OF LAND.
(a) & (b): Railways have in place policy on commercial utilisation of railway land and
air-space. As per this, the Railways put its vacant land/air-space for various commercial
uses like plantation, pisciculture, way-leave etc. Some sites, where potential exists are
also taken up for property development through transparent bidding procedure. The land
is also given on long lease to Govt. Deptts./Public Sector Undertakings. Apart from
commercial development of railway land/air-space, the vacant railway land which is not
required for immediate operational and maintenance purpose, is utilised for short-term
licensing for purposes connected with railway working (e.g., bulk oil installations,
sidings, commercial, plots etc.)
(c) Total revenue earned by Railways during the last three years from land including
property developments is given below zone-wise:
