Question : NEHRU YUVA KENDRAS

(a) the total number of Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYKs) functioning in the country including Maharashtra at present;

(b) whether the number of NYKs set-up so far are adequate to cater to the youths in the country;

(c) if not, whether the Government proposes to set-up new NYKs in the country and if so, the details thereof; State/location- wise;

(d) whether the Government has reviewed the functioning of NYKs in the country;

(e) if so, the details thereof during each of the last three years and the current year along with the shortcomings detected therein; and

(f) the details of the corrective measures taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) There are 623 Nehru Yuva Kendras in the country out of which 34 kendras are in the state of Maharashtra. State wise and location wise list of all such Kendras is enclosed at Annexure- I.

(b)&(c) Yes, Madam. At present there is no proposal under consideration for setting up new kendras in the country.

(d)to(f) Yes, Madam. An evaluation study of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) was entrusted to M/s. Haryali Centre for Rural Development, New Delhi, an independent agency which has recently submitted its report on 16th July,2014. The recommendations are being examined for their implementation to put more effective systems and mechanisms in place for the smooth functioning of the organization.
