Question : Revenue Collection from the Stations

(a) the year-wise details of revenue collection for the Railways from the stations of major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata (Howrah), Hyderabad (Secunderabad), Guwahati, Ernakulam, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Patna since 2008;

(b) the details of railway expenditure sanctioned and utilized for various projects in the above major cities; project-wise/year-wise;

(c) whether the tax revenue collection for the last two years from NCR is comparable or equivalent to Bengaluru; and

(d) if so, the reasons for not taking up enough developmental projects in Bengaluru as compared to NCR?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4011 BY SHRI L. S. TEJASVI SURYA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 18.03.2020 REGARDING REVENUE COLLECTION FROM THE STATIONS

(a): The revenue collections made from stations of Mumbai, Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) , Bangaluru, Chennai, Kolkata (Howrah),Hyderabad (Secundrabad), Guwahati, Ernakulam, Lucknow, Bhubaneshwar and Patna from 2008-09 to 2018-19 is appended.

(b): Railways’ expenditure is sanctioned project wise for various Zonal Railways and not for cities. Details of sanctioned projects are indicated in the document titled “Works, Machinery and Rolling Stock programme under respective Zonal Railways. These details have been made available in public domain on Indian Railways’ official website www.indianrailways.gov.in - Ministry of Railways , Railway Board-About Indian Railways-Railway Board Directorates-Finance (Budget), under respective years.

(c) and (d): Development projects of Railways are funded by gross budgetary support, borrowing and internal resources generated by Railways, as sanctioned by Government through annual budgetary exercise. These projects cover all zones, including Metropolitan areas. The sanctions are based upon the need for capacity augmentation to match traffic demand, operational constraints and various user amenities. Development projects for metropolitan regions include sub-urban rail systems, as are operating in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. Baiyyappanahalli-Hosur Doubling Project and Yasvanthpur-Channasandra Doubling Project have recently been sanctioned for Bengaluru.
