(a) whether the Union Government have given any direction to Power Grid Corporation to carry out the construction of 400 KV line from Madhurai to Trivandrum and 400 KV line from Bangalore to Kazhikode as part of the second stage of the Southern Region strengthening; and
(b) if so, the position thereof in this regard?

(a) & (b): Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) had
been directed to take up the construction of the
`Madurai-Thiruvananthapuram 400 KV Transmission System` Scheme.
Preliminary survey for this transmission line has been completed
and the proposal for forest clearance has been submitted by
PGCIL. The system is likely to be commissioned by December,
2003.
The Bangalore-Kazhikode 400 KV line has been
identified by POWERGRID for construction along with associated
transmission systems of future projects in consultation with CEA.
