Question : Abandoned Cattle

(a) whether the cattle who are no longer useful to the dairy sector are abandoned on roads, fields and forests;

(b) whether the Government is conducting any research on these cattle so that they can be utilised for some other works after their utility in dairy sector to ensure they do not roam on roads, fields and forests like stray animals;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the details of work being carried out in this regard in the States of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan?

(b)& (c) An inter-Ministerial funding program “Scientific Utilization through Research Augmentation- Prime Products from Indigenous Cows” (SUTRA-PIC India) has been planned with the support of Ministry of Science & Technology through Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)- Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR); Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy (Ayush); Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Project proposals are invited from scientists/ academicians from
Research Institutions, Academics, Grassroots Organizationsand so on to carry out R&D work, technology development linked to capacity building at local levelcovering following five thematic areas such as (a) Uniqueness of Indigenous Cows (b) Prime-products from Indigenous Cows for Medicine and Health (c) Prime-products from Indigenous Cows for Agricultural Applications (d) Prime-products from Indigenous Cows for Food and Nutrition ( e) Prime-products from indigenous cows-based utility items. The programme is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology.
