Question : POWER FROM PLASTIC SOLAR CELL

(a) whether the scientists in the entire world including India are working for generating power from plastic solar cell like silicon solar cell for the expansion of solar energy sector in the country;

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government for generating power from plastic solar cells and for the expansion of the capacity of solar energy along with the upgradation and development of solar plants set up in the country including Bihar;

(c) whether the production cost of power from plastic solar cell is ten times less as compared to solar cell;

(d) if so, the funds allocated and spent by the Government for creating silicon solar cells and for the expansion of the capacity of solar energy in the country during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the current status of the existing/proposed to be set up silicon solar cells/solar plants in the country during the said period, State/UT-wise?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR POWER, COAL & NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) (SHRI PIYUSH GOYAL)

(a): Organic solar cell or plastic solar cells are in the research stage in India and entire world. Silicon based solar cells are in common use.

(b): Various research institutions are working to develop organic solar cell in laboratory scale. MNRE has also sanctioned R&D projects for development of Organic solar cell to various research institutions.

No proposal of plastic solar cell has been sanctioned to any laboratory in Bihar for R&D.

(c): Organic solar cells are in research stage and therefore cost of commercial grade product is not known.

(d): Silicon based solar cells are being manufactured on commercial scale by private sector companies with their own investments.

(e): The tentative manufacturing installed capacity of solar cells and modules are 1386 MW and 2756 MW respectively all over the country.
