Question : Cyber Police Stations

(a) the total number of cyber police stations in the country as on date, State-wise

(b) the measures taken by the Government to combat cyber crimes especially financial frauds;

(c) whether the Government plans to increase the number of cyber police stations in the country in the next financial year; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects as per the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. The responsibility to maintain the law and order including setting up of cyber police stations rests primarily with the respective State/UT Government. Specific data regarding number of cyber police stations is not maintained centrally. States/UTs may set up police stations as per requirement.

To strengthen the mechanism to deal with the cyber crimes including financial frauds in a comprehensive and coordinated manner, the Central Government has taken steps for spreading awareness about cyber crimes; issuance of alerts/ advisories; capacity building/ training of law enforcement personnel/ prosecutors/ judicial officers; improving cyber forensic facilities; etc. The Government has also launched National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, www.cybercrime.gov.in to enable citizens to report complaints pertaining to all types of cyber crimes with special focus on cyber crimes against women and children.
