Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS ( SHRI SATYA BRATA MOOKHERJEE)

(a): The demand of fertilizers, measured in terms of consumption of nutrients, in Tamil Nadu during the last three years and that estimated for 2000-2001 was as under- In lakh MTs

Sl No.	Years	Consumption of Fertilizers Nutrients (N+P+K)
1. 1997-98 9.43

2. 1998-99 9.51

3. 1999-00 10.52

4. 2000-01(Estimated) 10.98
(b): State-wise data on subsidy of fertilizers is not maintained.

(c) & (d): Urea is the only fertilizer which is under price, distribution and movement control of the Government of India. The availability of urea to each State, including Tamil Nadu, is ensured as per the requirement and allocation made under Essential Commodities Act (ECA). Overall availability of urea in Tamil Nadu during the last three years has been satisfactory. Localised and temporary shortages, if any, were redressed by augmenting supply from other sources. Further, the availability of decontrolled fertilizers is dependent on market forces, and no allocation of these fertilizers is made under Essential Commodities Act.
