Question : SEA WALL AT KARNATAKA SEA COAST



(a) whether Union Government have received a proposal from Government of Karnataka to provide 136 crore for the construction of a permanent sea wall along the sea coast of Karnataka to protect the land from sea erosion;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government are aware that Karnataka has decided to construct a 1.5 k.m. Sea Wall at Ullal in the State with the assistance of French Government; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes, Sir. A proposal, amounting to Rs. 135.95 crore has been received in March, 2002 from Government of Karnataka for protection of vulnerable coastal areas from sea erosion and the same has been included in the proposed Phase-I of National Coastal Protection Project (NCPP).

(c) & (d) Yes, Sir. Karnataka Government is interested to take up a pilot project for 1.5 kilometre reach at Ullal beach near Mangalore at a cost of Rs. 6.375 crore with the assistance of French Government.
