Question : Corrupt IPS Officers


(a) whether the Government has any proposal to take action against some corrupt IPS officers under Rule-56 in the near future;

(b) if so, the details of such officers, specially from Uttar Pradesh;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the details of steps taken/likely to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d): The services of IPS officers are reviewed under sub-rule 3 of Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958 periodically. During the last two years, nine IPS officers have been retired from service in public interest. This does not include any officer belonging to Uttar Pradesh cadre.
