(a) the total quantity of foodgrains lost due to pilferage in transportation and storage along with the value thereof during the last three years;
(b) the measures taken by the Government to check such wasteful expenditure and loss of foodgrains;
(c) whether any action has been taken against the defaulting officials of Food Corporation of India (FCI) including recovery of the losses; and
(d) if so, the details thereof during the said period?

(a): The year-wise details of quantity of foodgrains lost due to theft/pilferage in storage and value thereof during last three years in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) are as under:-

(b): The following remedial steps have been taken to curb/detect theft and pilferage in storage:
(1) Installation of CCTV cameras in 58 FCI depots has been done during 2013-14 for surveillance and better supervision to obviate the cases of theft. Integrated Security Surveillance System (Electronic Surveillance and man guarding) has been put in place in 7 depots in 2014-15.
(2) Installation of barbed wires fencing of boundary walls, provision of street lights in the godowns/complexes and proper locking of the sheds are being ensured by the perspective field offices.
(3) Security staff of FCI as well as other agencies like Home Guards, Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) sponsored agency & Special Police Officers and state armed police are deployed for safety of stocks.
(4) Security Inspection as well as surprise checks of the depots are being conducted from time to time at various levels to detect and plug any security lapses.
(5) FIRs have also been lodged with the Police where pilferage has come to notice. Apart from this, departmental action including recovery of loss has been reported as a deterrent measure, wherever warranted.
(c) & (d): Yes, Madam. FIRs have been lodged and a total recovery of Rs. 13,10,900/- has been effected in the last three years. Details are at Annexure- I.
