Question : AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR SIS

(a) whether the Government has taken steps to facilitate better awareness on the strategic aspects of creating, managing, protecting and leveraging Intellectual Property as a tool to further business opportunities and enable wealth creation in the small industry sector (SIS);

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government runs/proposes to run awareness programmes for the small industry sector in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a&b) Under the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme, the Ministry of MSME is implementing a scheme “Building Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights” for the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.

The objective of the scheme is to enhance awareness of MSME about Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) to take measure for protecting their ideas and business strategies. Under this scheme financial assistance is being provided for taking up identified initiatives such as Awareness/Sensitisation Programme, Pilot studies, Interactive Seminars/Workshops, Specialised Training, Assistance on Grant of Patent and GI Registration, Setting up of Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre for MSME and Interaction with International Agencies.

(c&d) Organization of Awareness Programme is one of the components of the scheme and so far 61 Awareness Programmes have been conducted in various parts of the country.
