Question : Cotton Consumtion by Domestic Mills

(a) whether the cotton consumption by the domestic mills has gone down due to drop in demand for yarn, if so, the reasons therefor;

(b) whether cotton industry has been badly affected due to fall in production quality of cotton;

(c) if so, the details thereof and reasons therefor along with action taken thereon;

(d) whether there is a trend of increase in the price of cotton, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the Ministry has written to the Ministry of Agriculture to provide incentive for increasing the production and export of cotton for the welfare of cotton growing farmers, if so, the details thereof?

(a): No Madam.

(b): No, Madam. There is sufficient quality cotton available in country to meet the domestic consumption demand.

(c): Does not arise.

(d): Yes, Madam. The average price in respect of a few popular lint cotton varieties from 1st October, 2015 to 20th February., 2016 during cotton year 2014-15 and 2015-16 are as under:-
