Question : Investment by Indian-Foreign Companies

(a) whether the Government does an assessment to compare the investments of foreign companies in India and investments of Indian companies abroad;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the total number of Indian companies which have invested abroad with the value of investment vis-à-vis the total number of foreign companies which have invested in India with the value of investment during each of the last four years, sector-wise; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to attract more foreign investments in the country?

(a) & (b): Data on investments of foreign companies in India and investments of Indian companies abroad is monitored by Reserve Bank of India. The same is assessed on a continuing basis by the various departments of Government of India.

(c): Company-wise details of investments of foreign companies in India are not maintained. However, sector-wise details of the FDI Equity inflow reported during the last four years are at Annexure I. Further, data on total number of Indian entities which have invested abroad alongwith the sector-wise distribution of Overseas Direct Investment (ODI) during the last four years is provided at Annexure II.

(d): Government has put in place a liberal and transparent policy for FDI, wherein most of the sectors are open to FDI under the automatic route. The Government reviews the FDI policy on an ongoing basis and makes significant changes from time to time, to ensure that India remains attractive & investor friendly destination.
