Question : Status of Jal Jeevan Mission in Assam

(a) the salient features of the Jal Jeevan Mission;
(b) the details of the funds sanctioned, allocated and utilized under this scheme within Assam during the last one year;
(c) the details of the number of districts initially covered under this mission within Assam;
(d) whether the Government has made any survey in Assam regarding the households having tap connections and without tap connections;
(e) whether the Government has fixed any target in this regard; and
(f) if so, the details thereof along with the progress of work made so far in Assam?

(a) Government of India in partnership with States is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) with an outlay of ?3.60 lakh Crore, to provide tap water connection to every rural household by 2024. Under JJM, local community through Gram Panchayat or its sub-committee i.e. Village Water & Sanitation Committee/ Pani Samiti to plan, manage, operate and maintain in-village water supply system for assured water supply to every home.
(b) Details of funds allocated, released and reported utilization under JJM in Assam during 2020-21, is as follows:

(c) As reported by the State, all 33 districts of Assam are being covered under Jal Jeevan Mission. However, 10 JE-AES affected districts have been prioritized to provide tap water to every rural household.
(d) to (f) After revalidation, as on 8.2.2021, out of 63.35 lakh rural households in Assam, 4.08 lakh (6.45 %) households have tap water connections and the State has planned to provide tap water connections to remaining households by 2024. Since announcement of JJM, so far, 2.97 lakh rural households have been provided tap water connections in Assam.
