Question : COMMON SERVICE CENTRE



(a) the rules to set up Common Service Centers in various States;

(b) the number of such centres set up in the country so far, State-wise;

(c) the sanctioning authority to start such centers;

(d) whether there is any proposal to allot Common Service Centers to unemployed youths; and

(e) if so, the details thereof ?

MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY(SHRI SACHTN PILOT)

(a): Common Service Centers (CSCs) are set up on the basis of 1:6 i.e. 1 CSC for cluster of 6 villages. The State Governments issue request for proposal (RFP) and select the Service Center Agencies (SCAs) through a open competitive bid process. These SCAs are mandated by the states to setup, manage and operate Common Service Centers (CSCs).

(b): As on 31st Oct 2011 about 97000 CSCs have been setup in the country. The State wise breakup is attached as Annexure.

(c): The State Governments concerned are the sanctioning authority to start CSCs.

(d): No, Sir. Common Service Centres are operated by Village Level Entrepreneurs who are selected by the Service Centre Agencies.

(e): Does not arise.
