Question : Hostels for Working Women

(a) the number of hostels of working women in the country, State and location-wise;
(b) the steps taken by the Government to make working women aware of this facility;
(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of such hostels in the country, if so, the number of such hostels likely to be increased and the time by which it is likely to be completed and if not, the reasons therefor ;
(d) whether the Government provides financial assistance to the States including Uttar Pradesh for construction of women hostels; and
(e) if so, the details of funds provided during the last three years, State-wise?

(a) Since the inception of the Scheme, 958 hostels have been sanctioned so far. State wise details of the number of hostels for working women in the country is at Annexure I.

(b) It is the responsibility of the Implementing Agencies to create awareness about the facility among working women. Further, the Guidelines of the Scheme are available on the Ministry’s website.

(c) Seeking proposals from the State Govt./UTs and their approval by the Ministry is a continuous process.

(d) & (e) Financial assistance is provided to the States/UTs including Uttar Pradesh for the construction of hostels for working women. Details of funds provided during last three years State-wise is at Annexure II.
