Question : UPGRADATION OF INFRASTRUCTURE FOR FOOD SAFETY AND DRUGS CONTROL



(a) whether the Government has a proposal to upgrade infrastructure in the food safety and drugs control;

(b) if so, whether the Government proposes to bring founding a comprehensive legislation for the above purpose; and

(c) if so, the initiative taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard ?

(a): A World Bank assisted Capacity Building Project on Food and Drugs is in operation since 18.10.2003 for a period of five years. The project envisages the Upgradation of food & Drugs Control infrastructure at the Central and State Level by way of civil works, provision of equipments, training of food and drug regulatory personnel and personnel from the concerned industry and initiatives for information, education and communication in these areas.

(b) & (c): There is no such proposal at present in this Ministry.
