Question : TAKING OVER OF ESI HOSPITALS



(a) whether the Union Government proposed to take over delivery of medical services from the States to serve insured persons directly under the Emp- loyees State Insurance (ESI) scheme;

(b) if so, the details in this regard along with the reasons therefor;

(c) the number of ESI hospitals taken over so far; and

(d) the details of extra facilities proposed to be provided to the beneficiaries of ESI scheme throughout country?

(a) to (d): The ESI Corporation had in 2006 decided to take over the administration of ESI Medical Scheme from those States who were willing to hand over the same to the ESI Corporation. The ESI Corporation has so far taken over 22 such ESI hospitals from the State Governments. ESI Corporation has taken and proposes to take a number of measures to improve the delivery of medical care services under ESI Scheme like inc- reasing fee to be paid to Insurance Medical Practi- tioners (IMP), setting up of State Executive Commi- ttees with delegated powers in every state, heavy dispensaries to have minimum investigation faci- lities etc.
