Question : SETTING UP OF SPORTS ACADEMY



(a) the details of the schemes of the Government for setting up of sports academy in every State in partnership with the corporate sector;

(b) the details of the sports academies set up so far, location-wise and State-wise;

(c) whether any guidelines have been framed by the Union Government in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The State Sports Academy scheme provides for setting up State Sports Academies in the Public-Private Partnership mode.Under this scheme, projects are to be jointly funded by the Private/Public/NGO sponsor, the Central Government and a State Government in the ratio of 51:25:24, subject to the Central Government contribution not exceeding Rs.218 lakh towards capital costs and Rs.17 lakh per annum towards operational costs for a period of 3 years.The cost of the land is not covered under the scheme and is expected to be provided by the Private/Public/NGO sponsor or the State Government. A minimum of 10 acres is required to set up a State Sports Academy.

(b) No Academy has been set up under this scheme till date.

(c)&(d): Yes, Sir. Under the scheme only one Sports Academy can be assisted in each State/Union Territory. Further, the academy will have multi-disciplinary facilities, including a Fitness Centre, a Sports Medicine Centre, a Hostel and a multipurpose hall.
