Question : DUTY ON INDIAN STEEL



(a) whether European Union and some other countries has threatened to slap heavy import duty on Indian steel recently;

(b) if so, the details thereof and reasons therefor;

(c) the response of the Government and domestic steel industry thereon; and

(d) the present status thereof?

a): Indian steel exports to European Union and other countries are attracting import duties on the MFN rates as per WTO Agreement. No information about any threat from European Union or other countries to slap heavy import duty on Indian steel recently has been received. Further, no representation from any steel producer, export promotion council or association has been received on this subject.
