(a),(b),(c) & (d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE STARRED QUESTION NO. 202 DUE FOR
ANSWER ON 27.08.2007 IN THE LOK SABHA.
(a) & (b): Yes Sir. FCI has constructed 547 godowns through-out the country (including
38 godowns in North Eastern States and 27 godowns in West Bengal) having total capacity of
129.43 Lakh MT.
CWC has constructed 364 godowns all over the country (out of which 35 godowns are in
West Bengal and 9 godowns are in North Eastern States) having total capacity of 67.26 Lakh MT.
State-wise capacity of godowns constructed by FCI and CWC is at Annexure.
(c): The target fixed for creation of storage capacity during Xth Five Year Plan was 4.35
lakh tonnes for FCI which was reduced to 3.62 lakh tonnes based on the funds released by the
Government during each Annual Plan from 2002-03 to 2006-07. As against the target of 3.62
lakh tonnes, FCI has created a capacity of 3.66 lakh tonnes in the Xth Five Year Plan.
For CWC, the target fixed for creation of storage capacity was 15.74 lakh MTs.
CWC has constructed storage capacity of 14.28 lakh MTs in the Xth Five Year Plan.
(d): In respect of FCI, target (3.62 lakh tonnes) fixed during Xth Five Year Plan was
achieved by creating capacity of 3.66 lakh tonnes.
The shortfall in construction of godowns by CWC was due to non-availability of land
at various locations.
