Question : Popularisation of Ancient Monuments and Cities

(a) whether the Government has made any specific efforts to restore the popularity of the cities and monuments built by the popular kings of ancient and medieval period which have been almost forgotten; and

(b) if so, the State-wise details of the works carried out and funds allocated to restore forgotten heritages and the contribution of the kings in the country including Bundelkhand and Uttarakhand during the last three years?

(a) & (b) The process of protection of monuments/sites is a continuous process which is done as per the provisions of Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. All Efforts are taken for maintenance of all centrally protected monuments in a good condition. Regular conservation and preservation is taken up depending upon need and requirement of the monument /site considering availability of funds and resources. Provision of visitors amenities like drinking water and toilets and facilities like pathways, ramps, signage’s in various languages, sound and light shows, illumination, etc. is also taken up by Archaeological Survey of India. The expenditure incurred on all centrally protected monuments/ sites, State-wise, including monuments/sites within the State of Uttarakhand and Bundelkhand region is given at Annexure.
