Question : MALPRACTICES IN RAILWAY HOSPITALS



(a) whether the Railways run hospitals are equipped with massive infrastructure but function as mere referral centres in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the cost of running a hospital is six times more than the bearing of the complete cost of treatment of an employee in a private hospital;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether several cases of malpractices have been reported in supply of equipment and medicines in Railway Hospitals;

(f) if so, the action taken by the Government in this regard; and

(g) whether the Government proposes to handover the said hospitals to private players and if so, the details therof?

(a): No, Madam. Railway Hospitals are providing Primary & Secondary Level Medical Care to Railway employees, both serving and retired, and their eligible dependents. However, Advance Tertiary level Medical facilities for treatment of serious diseases are available only in some of the Zonal Railway Hospitals. For treatment of such serious diseases where Tertiary Care facilities are not available in the Railway Hospitals, railway beneficiaries are referred to empanelled Private Hospitals.
