Question : CONSTRUCTION OF NEW RAIL LINE IN MAHARASHTRA

(a) whether any proposalis pending with the Goverment for construction of new railway lines in Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details and the estimated cost thereof; and

(c) the details of railway lines given priority during 2001-2002?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.1832 BY SHRI RAMDAS RUPALA GAVIT AND SHRI DANVE RAOSAHEB PATIL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 29.11.2001 REGARDING CONSTRUCTION OF NEW RAIL LINE IN MAHARASHTRA.

(a) to (c) : Yes, Sir. There are four requests pending with the Government which are as under:-

1.	Construction of New line	Survey for coonstrution of new line	between Manmad-Malegaon-	from Manmad-Malegaon-Dhule and Dhule-	Dhule-Nardana-Shripurand	Nardana-Shirpur has been conducted.	Indore	It has revealed that the cost of construction	of these lines would be Rs.144.50 crore and Rs.104	crores respectively both with negative rate of	return. In view of the unremunerative nature	and constraint of resources, the proposals could not	be considered. The survey for new line from Shirpur	to Mhow is in progress. Further consideration of the	proposal would be possible after the survey report	becomes available. Indore Mhow is already connected by	a railway line.
2.	Construction of new line	The proposed new line from Baramati to Pandhapur would	from Baramati to Pandharpur	be about 110 km long and would cost not less than Rs.330	cr. In view of heavy throwforward of ongoing new line	works and constraint of resources, it has not been found	feasible to consider construction of the suggested new	line for the present.
3.	Construction of railway line	A survey has recenly been completed. The survey report	from Kalyan-Murbad via	revealed that the cost of the 204km line would be	Malshejghat to Ahmednagar	Rs.722 cr. with negative rate of return.Due to grossly	unremunerative nature of the line and acute constraint	of resources, the proposal could not be considered.
4.	Bandra-Kurla Rail Link	Bandra-Kurla Rail Link, which is one of the projects	included in Mumbai Urban Transport Project-II (MUTP-II),	will be considered at the appropriate time.
