Question : Setting up of AYUSH Research Institutes

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA,YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI,SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the Research Institutions in the AYUSH system of medicine supported by the Union/State Governments;

(b) whether the Union Government has any proposal to open new research institutions in AYUSH systems, if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the amount allocated for above purposes during 2016-17?

(a): Under Ministry of AYUSH, there are five autonomous Research Councils, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicines (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) with the mandate to under-take research in their respective system. A total of 82 institutes/units are functioning under these Councils.

In addition, some premier research institutions under Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) like Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow; Indian Institute for Integrative Medicines (IIIM), Jammu; Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology (IHBT), Palampur; National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow; North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat and Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research (DMAPR), Anand, Gujarat, under Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), are also engaged in research on herbal / medicinal plants used in herbal medicines.

(b): The details are as below:

(i) The Government has approved establishment of Central Research Institutes for Yoga and Naturopathy(CRIYN) at Nagmangala, Karnataka and Jhajjar, Haryana. Funds to the tune of Rs. 667.04 Lakhs and Rs. 590.17 Lakhs have been released for 2nd phase construction.
(ii) Land has been obtained from the State Government of Odisha for construction of a CRIYN.
(iii) A new institute namely, ‘Central Research Institute for Ayurveda Mineral and Marine Medicinal Resources’ at Goa has been approved ‘in-principle’ by Governing Body of CCRAS.

(c): The amount allocated under Budget Estimates 2016-17 to CCRYN for 2nd phase construction of CRIYN is Rs. 15 Crores.
