(a) Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is implementing an integrated human resource development programme to create trained manpower in the field of biotechnology by providing hands on training to undergraduate (UG) science students under Star College Scheme, supporting M.Sc. /M.Tech. courses in 70 universities/institutes in the country under DBT-Postgraduate Teaching Programme. Under Skill Vigyan Programme, the Department is providing industrial training to B.Tech./M.Sc./M.Tech. Biotechnology students for bridging skill gaps and enhancing employment prospects, re-training of existing faculty and scientists in advanced areas of biotechnology for upgrading their skills by conducting short term training courses. Additionally, advanced research training is also being provided by PhD and Post-Doctoral fellowships under DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) and DBT-Research Associateship (DBT-RA) Programmes respectively. Department launched Scientific Infrastructure Access for Harnessing Academia University Research Joint Collaboration (DBT-SAHAJ) Programme for providing advanced Research and Development (R&D) infrastructure to universities/institutions in areas of Biotechnology. The Department, through DBT-SAHAJ Programme, provides support to establish a new or upgradation of existing research resources/service facilities and platforms in Universities/institutions engaged in cutting edge research in frontier areas of Biotechnology. The institutions supported under DBT-SAHAJ Programme are also engaged in imparting advanced research training in areas of Biotechnology.
(b) Department has instituted Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship Programme for encouraging Indian scientists working in overseas laboratories to return to the country and to provide opportunity for conducting advanced research in areas of Biotechnology. To further increase the availability of high quality manpower in Biotechnology sector, Department has initiated a new programme- MK Bhan Young- Researcher Fellowship Programme (MK Bhan-YRFP) for Post-Doctoral training in DBT Autonomous institutes in 2020-21. This is in addition to DBT-JRF, DBT-RA and DBT-SAHAJ Programmes, which also aims to provide quality and trained manpower in all areas of biotechnology at national level.
