Question : Free Gas Connection under PMGKY

(a) the salient features of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Scheme;
(b) the details of the number of beneficiaries of this scheme in Tamil Nadu and
Rajasthan especially in Dausa and Ganganagar district;
(c) the details of free gas connection provided in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan especially
in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY);
(d) the details of number of gas connection made available free of cost to the persons
belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community in Dausa district and Scheduled Caste
category in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan under PMGKY;
(e) whether the Government has transferred direct cash in the accounts of the
beneficiaries under the said scheme during the last few months, if so, the details
thereof;
(f) whether the Government proposes to extend the scheme for some more months in
view of the COVID 19 crisis within the country, if so, the details thereof and if not, the
reasons therefor?

(a) Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was started on 01.05.2016 and the target
of the Scheme has been achieved in September, 2019. The Salient features of the
PMUY Scheme were as under :-
(i) LPG connection was released in the name of adult woman of the poor family,
subject to the condition that no LPG connection exists in the name of any family
member of the household and fulfilling other terms and conditions.
(ii) Initially, the beneficiaries under PMUY were identified either from SECC list or
from seven other identified categories. Subsequently, Government extended the benefit
to all left out poor families under PMUY subject to fulfilment of terms & conditions.
(iii) Under the Scheme, cash assistance upto Rs 1600/- for providing new LPG
connection is provided by the Central Government.
(iv) The beneficiary bore the cost of Hot Plate and purchase of first refill. The
beneficiary was given the option to take Hot Plate or purchase first refill or the both on
loan basis from OMCs at zero interest.
(b) PMUY beneficiaries in the State of Tamil Nadu are 32.42 lakh and PMUY
beneficiaries in the districts of Dausa and Ganganagar District of Rajasthan are 2.16
lakh and 1.7 lakh respectively.
(c) & (d) No fresh LPG connections were mandated to be released under Pradhan
Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY)
(e) Yes. OMCs have transferred an amount of Rs. 9670.41 crore to PMUY
beneficiaries under PMGKY for buying LPG refills.
(f) Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, a scheme for providing free of cost
LPG cylinders for three months to PMUY beneficiaries was initiated w.e.f. 01.04.2020.
The scheme has since been extended till 30th September for those beneficiaries who
have been credited with the advance for buying refills, but have not been able to buy the
free cylinders till 30th June 2020.
