Question : FOODGRAINS ROTTING IN POLICE STATION



(a) whether a huge quantity of wheat is rotting in a police station in North-West Delhi as reported in The Asian Age dated July 21, 2006;

(b) if so, the corrective steps taken by the Government in this regard;

(c) whether any responsibility has been fixed for such negligence of the concerned staff; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a), (b), (c) & (d): No, Sir. It is a fact that 139 Quintals of PDS Wheat was seized by the inspectorate staff of Enforcement Branch of Food and Supplies Department, Government of NCT of Delhi on 13.07.06. An FIR under Section 7/10/55 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955 has been lodged against the transporter of Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC), who was trying to divert these Specified Food Articles (SFAs) directly from FCI Godown for black marketing.

The seized goods have been handed over to DSCSC Godown at Gazipur on 21.07.06 on Superdari to keep in safe custody till the disposal of the case property.

The proceedings under section 6A of the E.C.Act, 1955 for the disposal of these seized goods are underway before the Collector.
