(a) whether there is any scheme of `Water Supply and Sanitation Project of World Bank - July, 1998` of a total amount of 1600 million dollar;

(b) if so, the details of the scheme;

(c) whether this scheme has already been started;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): The Delhi Jal Board had submitted a proposal for project preparation facility for the `Delhi Water Supply and Sewage Management Project` for World Bank funding in September, 1998. The Board is considering to obtain World Bank assistance for the project estimated to cost over Rs.1600 crores for an overall Institutional, Financial and Technical refurbishment of the Board, including the formulation of a Master Plan, rehabilitation/upgradation of the existing infrastructure and services and the establishment of fresh/additional capacities. The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) recommended the proposal to the World Bank to provide Project Preparation Facility (PPF), amounting to US $ 2.5 million. An agreement between the Government of India and the World Bank has been signed accordingly.
