Question : Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi

(a) the salient features of the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) Scheme;

(b) the funds sanctioned, allocated and utilized under RAN during the each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise including Tamil Nadu;

(c) the total number of patients enrolled under RAN in Tamil Nadu till date;

(d) the details of targets set and achievements made so far under the Scheme;

(e) whether the Government has taken note of the fact that cancer and transplant patients are facing difficulties in getting financial assistance under RAN in the country and if so, the details thereof along with the reason therefor; and

(f) the necessary steps taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (f): Under the Umbrella Scheme of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi, one-time financial assistance up to Rs. 15 lakh is provided to patients belonging to poor families living below threshold poverty lines and suffering from major identified life threatening diseases for medical treatment at Government hospitals.

The scheme has three components, namely:
(i) Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) – to provide financial assistance to patients suffering from life threatening diseases other than Cancer,
(ii) Health Minister’s Cancer Patients Fund (HMCPF) - to provide financial assistance to patients suffering from Cancer; and
(iii) Financial assistance Scheme for poor patients suffering from rare diseases – financial assistance to patients suffering from specified rare diseases is granted as per National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021.

Financial assistance for eligible patients is released to treating hospitals. There is no State/UT-wise allocation of funds under RAN scheme. Therefore, State-wise data is not maintained.

There are no specified target, the eligible applicants have been provided financial assistance under the Umbrella Scheme of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN).
