Question : Increasing of PG Seats

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the number of seats in the post graduate medical courses in the medical colleges in the country have been increased recently by the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of medical colleges and students likely to be benefited by this decision of the Government;

(d) whether the Government has taken decision to reduce the teacher-student ratio in the medical colleges of the country; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e): On the basis of applications made by the Colleges, 642 seats in Postgraduate Courses were permitted for the academic year 2017-18. Details are given in Annexure I.

The Medical Council of India, with prior permission of the Central Government, has notified an amendment on 31.01.2017 in Postgraduate Medical Educational Regulations, 2000 revising the teacher student ratio in all clinical subjects in Public funded Government Medical Colleges. In the light of the amendment, another 2990 seats in PG Courses for the year 2017-18 in clinical subjects of Government Medical Colleges were permitted. Details are given in Annexure-II.
