a) The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is a premier R&D organization with a pan India presence of 38 constituent laboratories whose details are attached at Annexure-I. The constituent laboratory namely, Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI), Bhopal is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
b) CSIR-AMPRI undertakes research programmes in the area of development of advanced Metal foams, metal alloys, Innovative forming and special processing techniques for light weight alloys, Shape memory materials, advanced polymer and polymer based composites, advanced radiation shielding and cement free concrete materials, Composite for alternative building materials and Technology for the rural masses. The Institute has developed following key technologies:
(i) MMC (Metal Matrix Composites) in particular aluminium alloy composite materials leading to development of Brake Drum for wear applications;
(ii) High-performance Composite (HP Composites) Materials as an alternative to synthetic wood, timber, plastics etc.;
(iii) Composite panels using industrial waste particulates, natural fibres and polymers;
(iv) Sisal Buffing Wheel suitable for applications in polishing/buffing industry, rural metal handicraft industry, engineering, automobiles and furniture;
(v) Radiation shielding material and glasses(lead free) for nuclear power plants; and
(vi) Smart Material Actuator for Automobile Applications.
